Royal Ascot is suitable named. Not only does this famous old racecourse enjoy the royal seal of approval but is located just 6 miles from the royal residence of Windsor Castle. The course remains the property of the Crown Estate and forms the ideal backdrop to the 'Sport of Kings' which epitomises horseracing at its very best. The main event is the Royal Ascot meeting, held in June each year and one of the most exclusive horseracing meetings in the world. Royal Ascot racing, more than any other event, is attended by foreign dignitaries and representatives from many royal households.

Free Racing Tips Royal Ascot racing is certainly the highlight of the course in both social and racing circles but it is by no means the only show in town.

There are 32 Group 1 races held each year on Britain's racecourses and 9 of them are held at Ascot, matched only by the home of British horseracing at Newmarket.

The flat race spectacular of the season is undoubtedly the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, an open age race which has attracted some of the finest thoroughbreds in history.

The history and traditions of horseracing are kept very much alive at Ascot, one of the oldest courses in the world. It was Queen Anne who first realised the potential of this ideal open heath land close to the castle and now nearly 300 years have passed since the first racing took place on the same spot in 1711.

The Queen Anne Stakes runs today at Ascot in recognition of the monarch's contributions to the world of horseracing. Although the regal connections firmly remain at Ascot, an act of parliament in 1813 ensured the future of Royal Ascot racing lay in the public domain and the course is one of the grandest and most loved of public racecourses.

In spite of its long and illustrious history in horseracing and the current crop of world class fixtures, Royal Ascot was the only meeting held at Ascot, right up until 1939. Such is the draw and appeal of the meeting and it remains by far the top attraction in the Ascot calendar. Staged over four days, the highlight of Royal Ascot racing is Gold Cup Day which is the third day of the meeting. While for horse racing enthusiasts the world over, the Gold Cup is a major horse racing event, for others it is simply 'Ladies Day' at Royal Ascot.

Most racecourses in the country stage their own Ladies Day within various fixtures throughout the season and these all pay homage to what is the original at Royal Ascot. Certainly a time when high fashion and the latest couture and hats make for press photo opportunities, Royal Ascot present the perfect opportunity for all racegoers to present themselves at their very best. Admission into the Royal Enclosure during Royal Ascot requires top hat and morning suits for the men and suitable fashions for the ladies but everyone attending Royal Ascot likes to make the effort for Europe’s best attended race meeting.

Ascot may be timeless, elegant, and classic and attract a certain clientele who are impressed by the royal connections but the course also presents racegoers with all the modern facilities and amenities expected from such a world class venue.
